Poll results: per-quarter tactical directives
130 of you took part in the first-ever BasketVibe poll. That's a strong turnout, and it tells me these polls are worth doing again — thank you to everyone who voted and commented.
The result: 25% in favor of per-quarter directives, 55% against, 20% fine either way. For most of the poll's run the numbers sat closer to 20/60/20, with a late swing toward "yes" — a sign that a meaningful part of the community does want more tactical depth. I'll keep that in mind as I plan further tactical additions later this season.
For now, the feature itself won't be implemented. I share the majority view here: finding the right balance of complexity is critical for this game. BasketVibe isn't trying to be the most complex manager on the market, and as a solo developer, chasing too much depth in tactics and the engine risks getting bogged down and unbalancing the game instead of improving it.
One comment from the thread said it better than I could myself: per-quarter directives might not actually be more realistic — in real basketball, a coach adjusts with full information in real time, while here you're still guessing. Adding more granularity to that guess risks making the game feel more random, not more realistic. That's exactly the concern I had going in.
A couple of interesting ideas came out of the discussion that are worth keeping around: a Basic/Advanced complexity toggle so players who want more control aren't forced onto everyone else, and a "tactical coach" concept that could adjust behavior dynamically based on the opponent. Nothing decided, but both are food for thought.
Thank you again. I will post another poll about revealing player potential in coming days.
